John Ross MacKimmie is a self-taught artist/illustrator who has been living and working in the Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts for the past 20 years. He started drawing as a small child and was fond of depicting everything from elaborate cartoons to detailed land and seascapes. He still draws and paints this subject matter, but he has an increasing interest in mythology, folklore, sacred places, and the cultures of antiquity. A fascination with ancient history, fantasy, and the metaphysical is reflected in much of his current work.
"The spiritual and esoteric side of life has always intrigued me and I strongly believe in its value and relevance to all of us. I would sincerely hope that my work would have a transformative impact on people (adults as well as children) who view it. At the very least, I hope that the fanciful imagery and vibrant colors will brighten someone's day."

John Ross' artwork has been represented in Massachusetts by Epigee Bookstore and Gallery, Peacework Gallery, and R. Michelson Galleries: and for several years he was represented by Art Impressions (Canoga Park, CA), an international licensing agency and subsidiary of Collectors Editions.
His work has been licensed and published on products by Ravensburger Spieleverlag (Germany), Opportunity Knocks (Del Ray Beach, FL), Great American Puzzle Factory (S. Norwalk, CT), and Sunsout, Inc. His work has also been used by Oasis TV (Beverly Hills, CA), and Woolf Associates (Boston, MA).
